New
Service Network – Swedish National Postal Service
The Swedish Postal Service www.posten.se
is going through one of the largest change processes in its 360 year history.
More than a thousand post offices around Sweden will be receiving a new
corporate profile and a completely new business model is being introduced.
The Swedish Postal Service's traditional service for the public is being
redistributed to food stores, petrol stations and late-closing conveneince
stores. Also, a number of so called business targeted offices (Postcenter)
have been opened.
The entire project has been inititated to improve customer's needs for
access and longer opening times. Several of the service centers that the
Postal Service cooperates with are open 24 hours a day.
Edgecode has contributed with architecture, design and development of
the new system that is used by the Postal Service and their partners.
The "Service Network", that has been designed and developed
with the most modern IT technology, contains about 3000 service points
and Postal Centers around Sweden. This includes local installations, applications
in each store and central solution for the Postal Service.
A web based solution in the system is used to serve all store owners,
the Postal Service's own Contact Center as well as all the Postal Service's
personnel. The project contains also the integration with several of the
Postal Service's internal business systems.
The project has demanded very high requirements in terms of offline-functionality,
large transaction volumes, performance, system access and data security.
Internet is used between service centers and the Postal Service's business
critical systems, with particular focus on data - and transaction security.
The project demanded large technological challenges and advanced database
solutions with high performance.
The IT platform is based on – Java J2EE with JSP, Servlets, EJB,
Oracle , Bea Weblogic and SUN Solaris.
